April Homeschool Book List – Great for Pre-K to Elementary
In this edition of our monthly homeschool book list, you’ll find three categories of books to enjoy throughout April: educational books, picture books, and chapter books. There will be a variety of books that are suitable for any child, whether they are homeschooled or not!
From preschoolers to middle-schoolers, a well-made book can bring joy. So even if you have a large family with varying ages, this homeschool book list is sure to bring you some great new picture books, chapter books, and educational books. Some of these books fit the holidays and seasons of the month, and some are purely just for fun!
I’ve also created a free printable reading packet to pair with your April reading journey. This is a great reading packet for any homeschooling family. Inside it, you will find a printable version of this reading list, a reflection page (that you can print more than once for each book you read), and a reading log to track any other book you’ve read and enjoyed throughout March.

Explore This Month’s Homeschool Book List
The library and stores are overflowing with books; it can be hard to know where to begin. Each month, I’ll be sharing my suggestions to help you and your homeschool kids grow in your love for reading!
My love and appreciation for books continues to grow since homeschooling. I even get excited to pick up our next picture book. When choosing a book, age should not be a limitation. A good book is a good book across all generations. Books are the core of learning in our home. Whether that be fantastical stories, funny rhymes, suspenseful mysteries, or anything in between. Books spark a child’s imagination, improve their vocabulary, and expand their understanding of the world around them.
Educational Books
We are blessed to live at a time filled with so many amazing kids’ books available. Topics that made me snooze in school, I can now teach to my children with fun, silly, and engaging books.
In each monthly homeschool book list, I like to include 6 books that are geared towards teaching a new core concept (math, English, history, famous people, science, etc.). These books can be a great way to help your children learn in a fun, engaging way.

Picture Books
Picture books are the core of my monthly homeschool book lists. That’s because homeschooling and learning go far beyond core subjects. A good picture book feeds the imagination, teaches life lessons, and expands a child’s understanding of the world around them. Or sometimes they’re just ridiculously silly and make us laugh, and that’s ok too!

Chapter Books
My kids both love going through chapter books at bedtime. Since they’re still young (7 and 4), we tend to choose books with easy-to-follow storylines and some good pictures throughout. Here are just a few chapter books we’ve been loving lately, and I hope you do too.
As you might be able to tell from the following suggestions, my kids have very different tastes in books. At the end of the day, reading should be fun! A literature-heavy education combines a variety of books. Sometimes, that’s deep, morally rich books that I’ve presented. And sometimes that’s purely silly books chosen by my kids for entertainment. A love for reading grows from all that and more.
