Scripture Memorization and Copywork for Homeschool Kids – Psalm 100

I love including scripture memorization in our homeschooling. It’s a beautiful practice to instill God’s Word into our little ones’ hearts and minds. This scripture memorization and copywork packet for Psalm 100 is a great way to memorize scripture while also practicing handwriting and reading.

These free copywork printables focus on Psalm 100, a beautiful psalm that encourages joy and thanksgiving in the Lord.

Psalm 100 is a wonderful psalm to memorize with your kids. There’s so much to dig into in just this one psalm. As you read it and work on your scripture memorization and copywork, spend some time discussing each element of Psalm 100.

Discuss these enriching topics with your kids as you read Psalm 100…

  • What joy looks like (even when life gets hard)
  • Teach your kids what it means to serve with gladness
  • Pull them out of their bad moods with singing and praise
  • God is our creator and wants us to come to Him!
  • God’s love is forever (no matter what we do!)

The Purpose of Copywork in Homeschooling

Copywork stands as a cornerstone in educational practices. Within the Charlotte Mason philosophy, copywork serves as an effective method for honing writing skills. Students engage in the process of copying passages from literature or various writing sources, allowing them to master handwriting and perfect letter formation.

This practice not only enriches vocabulary but also enhances reading and writing capabilities while providing insights into punctuation usage. Copywork is a powerful method to seamlessly integrate formal writing skills into learning.

Its primary objective is for children to internalize diverse knowledge through the consistent habit of copywork, immersing themselves in exceptional literature while advancing their skills through varied passages.

Some benefits of copywork include:

  • Handwriting practice (in this printable, I include both print and cursive for added learning).
  • Spelling practice – instead of boring flash cards and drill tests, copywriting offers a gentle approach to learn how to spell new words
  • Grammar practice
  • Memorizing material (here we practice scripture, but copywriting is great for any new material being read).
  • Reading practice

What age range is this Scripture Memorization and Copywork Printable for?

This will be especially great for your elementary students (1st-3rd graders).

However, one thing I love about homeschooling is that you can tailor ANY content to fit your children’s needs and abilities. Especially if you have a variety of ages in your home.

Are First Grade and Preschool Too Young for Scripture Memorization?

No way! Their little minds are like sponges right now. It always amazes me that even my preschooler can memorize scripture. So while he won’t be able to sit and do all of the copywriting with us, I will include him as we read through this packet and recite the psalm together.

In terms of the printable packet, my 1st grader will be able to complete everything as is. For my preschooler, I’m going to focus more on verbal discussion, songs, drawings, and maybe have him practice tracing writing some smaller words from the psalm, like joy.
