Free Fruit of the Spirit Printables and Lesson for Young Kids

In this blog post, I’ll share how we go about discussing and teaching the Fruit of the Spirit to our kids. You’ll also find our FREE Fruit of the Spirit printables designed for young kids learning the Bible.

As a Christian Homeschooling mom, a big part of our preschool day consists of God’s word. It’s never too early to memorize scripture with kids. With the right tools, it can be taught very simply to little ones. While we do read through a children’s bible every day, there are also some key concepts I always come back to during our preschool homeschool day. This Fruit of the Spirit Lesson is something I keep in our repetition folder and come back to every few weeks for a review and discussion.

How I Use This Fruit of the Spirit Lesson for Kids

I think the Fruit of the Spirit lesson for kids is such a foundational lesson of the bible that I like to keep a laminated copy of these free Fruit of the Spirit printables in our repetition folder. In case you missed it, this blog post will explain better what a repetition learning folder is.

It’s amazing to see how different our discussions will be every time I go over this fruit of the Spirit lesson. I’ve found it’s a great way to spark discussion about sin, and more importantly, the forgiveness of Jesus. Maybe we’ve all had a rough week. Maybe my kids haven’t been getting along. Maybe my daughter had her feelings hurt by a friend. Whatever life throws our way, this lesson has led to fruitful (pun intended) conversations, whether it be about our own need for forgiveness or giving us a chance to forgive someone else who wasn’t walking in the Spirit.

This Fruit of the Spirit Lesson for Kids is also a great way to teach that all good things come from the Lord. We can’t conjure up goodness that lasts. Our own works will never save us. We need the Holy Spirit working in us to have these fruits.

One step further, if you begin to discuss that the fruits can only come from the Holy Spirit, it sparks a discussion of prayer. Prayer is our greatest weapon as Christians. So I love any bible lesson that allows me to explain that to my kids.

If this Free Fruit of the Spirit Printables sparks some great conversations with your kids, make sure to share those praise reports in the comments below. I’d love to hear about it, and I’m sure others would too!

A Great Way to Remember the Fruit of the Spirit

As someone who didn’t come to Christ until I was a young adult, I’m trying to remember bible verses right along with my kids. I also have never been great at memorizing anything, so there’s that. But just like my kids, if we can put it to a song, I can get it in no time. If your kids (or you) want to remember each fruit of the Spirit, this song will make you laugh and stick in your memory in no time.

How to Use this Fruit of the Spirit Lesson for Different Kids’ Ages

If you have young kids like me, a discussion works great. Much like our monthly Homeschool book series discussion packet, this lesson contains engaging questions to spark conversation. Just read through the worksheet and take time to talk about it. Use the discussion questions to prompt a conversation, but leave room for the discussion to take on a life of its own. Even though the questions will be the same, you’ll be surprised how different your conversations will be every time you pull out this worksheet.

If you have older kids who know how to write, pull out a notebook that they can use to answer the questions in. You could even have them write the verse a few times to practice memorizing it. Don’t skimp out on the discussion for the older kiddos, though. After they spend some time writing, allow their answer to lead to conversation and family prayer.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

-Galations 5:22-25

I also encourage you, as a mother, to dig into the Bible and memorize verses for peace and comfort. Our own walk with God is one of the greatest witnesses to our kids. That’s why I created the Verses for Motherhood series on EOD.
